Tell me about yourself. What is your background and how did you get involved with wholesale lumber?
I am 32 years old and a mother of two vivacious children, Jack (4) and Ava (2). My husband, Ryan, serves in the United States Navy and we are extremely proud to be a military family representing the greatest country in the world! My family owns and operates Gates Milling, Inc so I was raised with sawdust in my blood.
What motivates you to continue on this career path and be a part of the wholesale lumber industry?
My sister and I are the third generation of family leadership at Gates Milling. Our grandfather started the company in 1978, and we are excited to continue the family legacy in a few years when our parents retire!
In what ways have you seen the lumber industry evolve over the years?
I have worked in the industry for seven years, but I feel as if I grew up alongside it. Since joining the company in 2017, I have observed the expansion of the lumber industry into global marketing initiatives and technological advancements for industry-specific software.
What has been the most rewarding part of your career so far? Are there any “wow” moments that particularly stand out to you?
As Vice President of Operations, I plan production for the entirety of the mill. Setting goals and working with different leadership within our company to surpass them has been an extremely rewarding experience.
Tell me about your involvement with NAWLA. How long have you been a member and what made you want to join?
We have only been members of NAWLA for a couple of years, but we have really seen the benefits of membership!
What advice would you give to a new NAWLA member?
Participate in events, especially Trader’s Market. It is a great experience that we have had success with.
What’s been your favorite NAWLA moment?
I had the opportunity to plan and execute our first exhibitor’s booth at NAWLA’s 2023 Traders Market. This was such a fantastic opportunity and experience getting to socialize with customers and competition alike!
