Meet Our Members: Katherine Pederson

After five years in the glass industry, Katherine Pederson transitioned to a career in the lumber industry at Allweather Woods, where she discovered her true calling. In this member spotlight, learn about Katherine's journey into the industry, the changes she's witnessed over the years, and the most valuable benefits of being a NAWLA member.

Tell me about yourself. What is your background and how did you get involved with wholesale lumber?

My name is Katherine Pederson, and I have seven years of experience in the purchasing field. I have five years of experience in the commercial and residential glass industry and have spent the last two years in the lumber industry with Allweather Wood. After five years in the glass industry, I sought a new opportunity that would provide a greater sense of fulfillment and purpose. Entering the lumber industry with an open mind has proven to be an incredibly rewarding experience so far.

What motivates you to continue on this career path and be a part of the wholesale lumber industry?

I am motivated by the opportunities for growth and development and the valuable relationships I have built within the industry over the past couple of years.

In what ways have you seen the lumber industry evolve over the years?

Over the past two years, I have had the opportunity to tour several mills, and one consistent observation has been the significant technological advancements implemented in production. Many of these innovations have increased the mills' production capacity. It is very impressive.

What has been the most rewarding part of your career so far? Are there any “wow” moments that particularly stand out to you?

One aspect of this industry that truly impresses me is the lifelong relationships built within it and the deep roots that often span generations. I've met individuals whose families have been involved in the industry for several generations, which speaks volumes about the strong connections built and the intimate nature of the lumber industry.

Tell me about your involvement with NAWLA. How long have you been a member and what made you want to join?

I have been a member of NAWLA since 2023. Joining NAWLA has provided me with valuable networking opportunities within the industry, allowing me to establish significant business connections and develop meaningful professional relationships.

What advice would you give to a new NAWLA member?

The best advice I could offer to a new NAWLA member is to attend as many networking events as possible. The wealth of knowledge and insight available at these events is truly remarkable.

What’s been your favorite NAWLA moment?

My favorite NAWLA moment was participating in the 2023 Spring Wood Basics. It offered me a comprehensive understanding of the lumber industry and provided a valuable opportunity to connect with others who were also relatively new to the industry across several different areas.
