Meet Our Members: Brandon Miller

Brandon Miller joined the lumber industry eight years ago after gaining valuable experience by serving in the US Army. In this member spotlight, hear about the many NAWLA programs Brandon is involved in, what the most rewarding part of his career is, and how he has seen the lumber industry evolve since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tell me about yourself. What is your background and how did you get involved with wholesale lumber?

I’m a dog lover, workout enthusiast, and below-average golfer! I started eight years ago in the Wholesale Lumber Business as the Operations Manager at Weekes Forest Products in Michigan. I have Sales experience in the Technology Industry, and Logistics/Operations experience from my time in the US Army. I worked in Operations for two years and have been on the Sales Team as an Account Manager for six years now.

What motivates you to continue on this career path and be a part of the wholesale lumber industry?

I always enjoy a challenge and love the process. Every day this industry can bring a new challenge, opportunity, or learning experience. At Weekes, we pride ourselves on specialty products and services that create a different daily workflow that keeps us on our toes!

In what ways have you seen the lumber industry evolve over the years?

Three words: The Covid-19 Pandemic. Talk about an extreme challenge that created extreme opportunities! I learned to be more agile with my work by embracing new technologies in cloud services and remote productivity. I also learned how to work more cohesively with our vendors and customers when it came to expectations, lead times, and services.

What has been the most rewarding part of your career so far? Are there any “wow” moments that particularly stand out to you?

We are lucky to be Employee Owners at Weekes. We have “wow” moments every day when we collectively achieve goals that improve our stake in the company.

Tell me about your involvement with NAWLA. How long have you been a member and what made you want to join?

I have been a NAWLA Member since I started my career at Weekes. I have participated in Wood Basics, am a member of the Young Emerging Lumber Professional Program (YELP) 2023 Class, and recently joined the Mentorship Program as a mentee. I am also a member of a NAWLA 10-Group. Each experience has been very valuable and has helped me stay motivated and engaged.

What advice would you give to a new NAWLA member?

Participate, you get what you put in!

What’s been your favorite NAWLA moment?

The 2023 YELP Retreat was very special for me. It's refreshing and motivating to meet other young people that share a passion for the industry and learn how we can all be better together.
