Against the Grain: Reflections on 2022

As we now settle into the new year and reflect on our resolutions – both new and old, both achieved and almost there... (looking at my gym membership), I’m also reflecting on the memories, lessons and success of this past year. Serving NAWLA in the role of Executive Chairman in 2022 was an honor.

It was a year that many of us will likely remember as a year of coming back together, stronger and more resilient. Beginning with Leadership Summit in March and then watching NAWLA travel throughout the U.S. and Canada with our Wood Basics Courses and Regional Meetings has been an inspiration as well as a sign… we’re back.

2022 was filled with plenty of memories and of course, many lessons were learned. Yet, it is successes of the year that standout most clearly to me. We were able to accomplish so many of the goals planned for the year thanks in large-part to the efforts of our industry leaders that serve on NAWLA’s many committees and on our Board of Directors. Our Executive Director, Scott Parker, and the NAWLA staff worked tirelessly to provide the structure and support to see the fruits of our labors, culminating in a memorable Traders Market this past November in Phoenix, AZ. By all metrics, this was our most-attended and most successful Traders Market in history, and together, we can all feel a sense of pride in the strength of our industry and our association.

NAWLA continues to be a strong platform and touchpoint for our industry, creating space for peers, customers, prospects, volunteers and member companies to exchange ideas and shape the industry together.

I pray that each of your holiday seasons were filled with joy and that your new year is filled with promise and hope. I am hopeful and excited for what this new year will bring for our industry and for NAWLA. And, I can promise that as I pass the metaphorical baton to our incoming chairman, NAWLA is in good hands with Steve Rustja with Weston Forest. Cheers to an even more fulfilling and robust 2023!
