Latest on the Next Congressional Pandemic Relief Package and PPP Extension
Stopgap funding legislation to avert a government shutdown is currently waiting on action in the Senate. The continuing resolution (CR), which would keep the government funded through December 11th, easily passed the House on Tuesday after Democrats and Republicans hammered out a deal to include funding for nutrition assistance and trade relief for farmers. According to Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Richard Shelby, the Senate will hold a procedural vote on the House passed CR this afternoon and a final vote will be held next Tuesday night.
Absent from the CR is the extension of several programs created by the CARES Act, which also expire at the end of the month. NAW and our allies continue to push Congress for action on PPP expansion, liability protection and an end to the $600 pandemic UI benefit. Any possible extension of these programs is expected to be included in the next round of coronavirus relief, which has been mired for weeks in partisan politics. Few on Capitol Hill expect a deal is possible before both the House and Senate leave town next week to campaign before the November election.
